We welcome you to Santa Clara Parish and Chapel!
Local California Mission padres from the San Buenaventura Mission had been serving the Catholic families of the Oxnard Plain at the parish mission of New Jerusalem (El Rio) for decades prior. Santa Clara parish was formally named on August 19th, 1884, by Bishop Francisco Mora. The parish officially opened on February 1, 1885, with Father Juan Pujol as the first pastor. At the turn of the century in 1903, a cornerstone was laid for a beautiful new red brick church in what is now the historic downtown core of Oxnard, CA.
In addition to the main parish, Santa Clara maintains a mission chapel five miles away up near the 101 Freeway off of Rose Avenue and also has within its boundaries a newer Korean Catholic mission next door to the Knights of Columbus Hall. Santa Clara Parish is in Deanery III of the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region, which is one of five pastoral regions of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
The mission of Santa Clara Parish is to proclaim the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic faith to all who seek the Living Christ and his Church. We are a large parish and chapel community with a small-town feel. You are most welcome here!
